if i couldn't get away with anything THEN HOW IN THE HELL DID I GET HERE? When the school bell rang at the end of a Friday most of the students, and some of the teachers, would spill out of the classrooms and outside of the buildings. The majority of students would head to their dorm, get changed, and then go out with their friends. The teachers would rush home to see to either see their families, have a beer with their colleagues or just relax. The fact was that when the bell rang for the end of the day on a Friday, the burden of school was lifted from everyones shoulders and they cheered up. It was a joy that the moment of freedom was ten minutes away then, right?
The harsh reality was that it was not. And, as she sat and watched the clock slowly tick by, Elizabeth realized this. Mr. Seymour had gone home early and despite trying as hard as she could, Liz had been unable to get the class to do anything and they had resulted to keeping themselves entertained. The popular kids were discussing their plans for the weekend, the loners were listening to their iPods, and some of the boys at the back were playing Texas Hold 'Em! Of course Elizabeth did not condone gambling, but when she had tried to take away their cards they had simply produced another pack. Prepared. That's what they were, and they were that to a fault. There was no chance a Student-Teacher who was unsure of herself was going to stop them from playing.
So it was with a sigh of relief that when the bell rang the students exited the classroom and allowed her to pack up her things. Once she had done so the twenty-three year old left the room, locked the door with the key Aaron had given her, and started to head over to reception so that he could collect it on his way in tomorrow. It was a cold day and the snow that had started during the final period had thinly set along the ground, so Elizabeth thought that she would head through the walks and take a look at the scenery.
As the blonde pushed open the door that led out onto the walks, she used her free hand to pull her coat tighter around her neck to keep the cold out. Next, before stepping out of the building, she opened up her umbrella so that she didn't get too much snow on her and stepped out. There where so little students in this part of the walks that the twenty-three year old could hear the snow crunch beneath her feet, and the sound of footsteps behind her. Taking note of the fact that the length of time between the crunches diminished as they got louder, Elizabeth looked over her shoulder to see who was chasing after her. ____________________________________ Tag: Alexandrina Grace Lee! class was generally fun, especially when it was being taught by your oldest sibling. and by taught, well more like observed. alex sat in the back simply because that was where all the fun was, it was easier to text while in the back, it was easier to sleep, or talk to your friends, anything and everything happened in the back. so today during her favourite class of the day, when dear mr. seymour had left early, the fun had begun. a texas hold em game was going on in one part of the room, there had been people talking and listening to their ipods, truly, it was pretty fun. but liz had had to try to stop the game, which had been where alex was that afternoon.
long brown hair hanging over her shoulders as she leaned over one of the guy's shoulders, she glanced at his cards and laughed, pointing to one and watching him nod. ah c'mon, you can't have drea helping you!
alex laughed and shrugged, sitting back on top of her desk. her feet dangled over the floor as she watched the game continue, glancing up ever so often to check the clock. she'd lived with her sister up until fifth grade, and never in those years had she seen liz get out of a room quite as quickly as when the bell rang releasing class. picking up her backpack and throwing on her jacket, alex waved to the guys and jogged out of the classroom. looking down the hallway, she tried to spot her older sister, but among all of the other students, she couldn't. most of her classmates didn't even know she was related to the student-teacher, all they wondered was how she'd managed to get out of the alcohol charges that had been put upon her by the school. heading for the door, alex realised that her hoodie might be enough for a little snow, but not for long. stuffing her hands in her pockets, she looked around, dodging a snowball as it flew across the grounds and then she spotted the blonde a little ways in front of her. liz. she said mostly to herself as she picked up her pace to try to catch up. let me get one thing very clear, snow and converse just don't mix. ever. jogging through the snow towards her sister, she felt her feet keep giving out from under her when she'd hit a patch of ice, but, for the most part she stayed standing. about the time that alex started thinking to call after elizabeth, the older woman turned to look. closing the gap between them, alex gave her usual smile and looked at her sister. hey, can i talk to you about something? her cheeks were a little red because of the cold, but other than that, she still looked like herself, an easy grin spread across her face, her blue-green eyes curious, and her hands in her pockets. &&. word count - - coming soon - &&. muse level - fair &&. wearing - click&&. notes - heh, yeah, mine 'll hopefully get better toooo. so tell me now what do i have to do TO SAY THINGS THAT WILL GET THROUGH TO YOU Of all the people that Elizabeth thought would have been chasing after her Grace, her youngest sister, was not one of them. Her name was not really Grace but it was what their mother had called her when they were younger and there were a few reasons why Liz also used it. The two main reasons were that it was a lot easier to say than Alexandrina, and was a prettier name than any shortened version of Alexandrina. The other reason, and she would never admit to this, was that she thought it might annoy her sister because it was their mothers name for her. The twenty-three year old was sad to say that she had never seen any reaction that proved that to be true.
"What is it Grace?" You know when you were little and you used to bombard your dad with loads of questions while he was having a beer and watching the TV and, after about fifteen questions, you'd go off and come back ten minutes later with another one? Do you remember that bored, slightly high pitched tone that he used to use when you came back? Well that was what Elizabeth had sounded like. It wasn't the nicest tone to greet your sister in, but then again Elizabeth and Grace did not have the nicest relationship.
Biting her lower lip in anticipation, Elizabeth proceeded to give her sister the once over. There was nothing really that caught her eyes apart from the redness in her cheeks from the cold, and her converses. It was not because Elizabeth was not a fan of converses that she took special note of the shoes, it was just t hat they weren't really suitable for the conditions they were standing in. Then again, neither were her own boots. "Let's walk and talk?" Elizabeth suggested, the gloved hand that was not holding onto her umbrella pulled the top of her coat tighter as she did so. The snow was starting to get heavier, and if they walked while they talked at least they wouldn't become as cold as they would if they were standing still.
Thoughts of what Alexandrina wanted to talk to her about began to swirl around the blonde's head. What was so important as to make the Junior literally run after her? The only thing Elizabeth thought of that made sense was that the girl was homesick and just wanted to talk to her, but that was questionable as she had already been in the city for over a year. Besides, if that were the case Liz doubted that she would talk to her instead of just phoning their mom, dad or maybe even Olivia. Perhaps she just wanted to annoy her, or maybe, just maybe, she wanted to put aside their differences and start anew. ____________________________________ Tag: Ms. Lee! alexandrina skidded slightly on some ice as she finally caught up with liz, What is it Grace?
running her hand through her hair in order to not make some snide comment about how that wasn't her name, but, she was trying to be good, so, instead she just ignored it. but, she'd gotten that far, but, now she wasn't so sure about what she was about to say. shifting slightly on her feet, she pondered this for a moment and then when she opened her mouth to speak, liz beat her to it. Let's walk and talk? nodding, alex stuck her hands back in her pockets and fell into step beside her older sister. okay, here's the deal. . . she was scrambling in her mind now. how had she not thought about this? you live in that really nice apartment. . . don't you? in truth, she didn't think it was, like, uber nice, but, now she was sucking up. figuring she'd appeal to her sister's better nature. she'd never been one to really do that, so it took a bit of work to actually do so, but, she just had to hope that it was convincing enough, her usual perky voice might be enough to cover up the fact. &&. word count - - coming soon - &&. muse level - extremely poor. . . &&. wearing - click&&. notes - i'm soooo sorry it took so long to reply. . . so tell me now what do i have to do TO SAY THINGS THAT WILL GET THROUGH TO YOU As the two sisters walked along the snow covered path, Elizabeth could hear the crinkling of snowflakes beneath her feet. It was a comforting sound, as no matter what her sister could say there would always be that crunching sound to stop a dead awkward silence from falling among them. okay, here's the deal. . . Elizabeth bit her tongue in reflex. From past experiences, usually whenever her youngest sister were to use those words the deal would not bode well for one party, that one party being Elizabeth of course. Yes, there had been the immature "if you don't do this I'll tell mom" moment between them, but there had also been a few more embarrassing ones, which Liz would never dream of thinking of. Memories could be cruel sometimes.
Despite worrying as to what Grace was about to propose, Elizabeth kept quiet and let her eyes run up the path, back to her sister's feet, and then up to her face. you live in that really nice apartment. . . don't you? Okay, that was something Liz had not expected, but it did give her an insight into what Grace wanted, or at least Elizabeth thought so. "Well, it's a lot better than that motel, but it's no Madison Terrace..." Oh, who was Elizabeth kidding. Everyone who lived in the Jade Garden complex, and some of those who lived at Madison Terrace, knew that the former was much better value for money because it could almost be passed off as the latter. Besides, how her apartment compared to others in the city was not really that important at this precise moment in time. What was important was why Grace was asking about where she lived, and now was the time to ask. However, all that passed by Elizabeth's lips was a simple inquisitive "Yes?"
Elizabeth frowned. She had this habit of choking and saying fewer words than she would of liked to at times, and that habit had just surfaced. This particular time was more annoying than usually as Elizabeth thought that she may know what Grace was getting at: the prospect of them living together. Images of disasters began to flow through the blonde's head. The most long lasting images were of her sister clutching a bottle of alcohol sprawled out along the couch, and of a condom wrapper in a bin. Elizabeth didn't imagine these things because she thought her sister was a alcohol abusing tramp, it's just that well... from time to time there were articles in the paper. Usually she washed them off as judgmental, but something about the possibility of Grace asking to move in with her had made them come in a new light. After all, would you want to move in with somebody you didn't get along with unless you were running away from something? ____________________________________ Tag: Ms. Lee! pulling her backpack higher up on her shoulders, she jumped right into it, watching as her sister bit her lip and grimmiced slightly. she knew that she'd used that tone and word choice quite a bit in their childhood, and generally it hadn't been good for liz, but, it was just how she was wired. Well, it's a lot better than that motel, but it's no Madison Terrace...
alex nodded slightly and then continued to appear pondering. when truely, she was trying to just bring herself to admit to her sister that she wanted to live with her. . . Yes? alex looked over at the blonde and then nodded, working out the wording one last time in her head. okay. . . so, i was wondering if you wanted a roomie? y'know, work on that sisterly bonding thing dad talked about? she threw that one out there simply because her father had pulled her aside during the summer and told her that she and liz really needed to work things out between them. she didn't know whether or not her sister knew of this conversation or not, but, she still launched it into the stream. i mean, we're too old to be holding the same grudges that we've held since grade school, right? she only held a few grudges, but, there was definitely some bad blood between them. . . rubbing her hands together for a moment to get some of the feeling back in them, she looked down at where her feet were heading, making sure to avoid ice and the like. sure, she might have a few alterior motives to wanting to live with her sister, such as the fact that there wasn't a security guard doing random searches on your room every other week, but, that was only her desire for privacy. and could you blame her? she'd grown up far enough away from people to like her privacy, and they were invading it. but now her grey eyes found their way back to her sister's face, waiting for any kind of answer, anything to tell her that she might have a chance. she didn't care f she'd have to defend herself just a smidge, but, this was still worth a shot, no? so tell me now what do i have to do TO SAY THINGS THAT WILL GET THROUGH TO YOU Shuffling her feet, Elizabeth's ears twitched slightly when Grace mentioned the word roomie. Of course the blonde had wanted one, as it got quite lonely living in the city alone, but she didn't really have any friends that she felt close enough to let see her laundry, let alone her bathroom when it needed a clean! "Well, yes..." Elizabeth mumbled, considering what it would be like to have Grace as her roommate. Disruptive and un-homely were two words that sprung to mind. That aside, maybe if they lived with one another they would sort out their differences and disruptive and un-homely would become comforting and welcoming? Maybe, maybe.
As Grace continued to talk, the uncertainty that was in Liz's mind started to fade out, but not completely. Her younger sister was making it so that if she were to say no, she'd seem like a bad. Especcialy say, if the family were crowded around their father's deathbed and he asked them why they hadn't made up in Chicago and Elizabeth told him that she had refused to let her sister in. That would go down well. "Grace...." Elizabeth said out loud, taking a last chance to ponder both the advantages and disadvantages of them living together. "Yeah, sure, you can move in with me. But, on one condition-" well, not one as more were likely to be added later, "-you must promise that we will try to work on our differences." ____________________________________ Tag: Ms. Lee! alex dodged one certain patch of ice, and then looked back over at her sister, grinning as snow began to fall once more, one flake landing on her nose, making her shake her head. Well, yes...
with a nod, alex continued explaining her suggestion. plans were already running through her head, but, not even on purpose, it was just as though her mind sensed freedom just over the horizon and was figuring out how it was going to enjoy it. but, no. alex was trying to be nice here, she wouldn't take advantage of her sister's hospitality for once. if she said yes, of course. Grace.... Yeah, sure, you can move in with me. But, on one condition- a grin burst out on alex's face, though she knew that this meant she'd have to get used to going by grace when she wasn't at school, she was fine with that, just so long as it meant she wouldn't have to stay in the dorms. there were way too many rules in the dorms. too many of her skeletons hidden in the closets. -you must promise that we will try to work on our differences. she nodded at her sister's request, condition, whatever it was. you're serious? thankyouthankyouthankyou! she all but tackled the older girl in a hug, something she couldn't even remember ever doing. it was only when she realised what she was doing that she pulled away and ran her hand through her hair, looking down at her feet, biting her lip, she shrugged, oh well.
